Non-Surgical Treatment for Hip Sacroiliitis and Leg Problems

Hip and leg pain can strike even when you're performing the most ordinary motions and tasks, especially if you suffer from sacroiliitis. This inflammatory condition can make climbing stairs, turning over in bed, walking with long strides, or even standing still an agonizing experience. Fortunately, you don't have to endure this debilitating problem, nor do you need to treat it with painkillers or surgery. Our chiropractor at Sharratt Chiropractic can administer safe, conservative treatments to help you overcome hip sacroiliitis and leg problems.

Non-Surgical Treatment for Hip Sacroiliitis and Leg Problems

Understanding Sacroiliitis

The term "sacroiliitis" refers to any inflammation of the sacroiliac joint (SI), the joint that connects the sacrum (tailbone) to the ilium (pelvic bone). This inflammation can develop in the SI joint on either side of the body, or it can afflict both SI joints at the same time. Typical symptoms include pain and/or stiffness in the hips, lower back, or legs. In some cases the pain is will radiate into the groin area. These symptoms become especially troublesome whenever you shift your weight distribution onto the affected hip.

Sacroiliitis can have a number of causes and contributing factors, including:

    • SI joint dysfunction, in which the joint is either too mobile or not mobile enough for normal performance
    • Osteoarthritis of the SI joint
    • Ankylosing spondylitis, another type of arthritis associated with inflammation
    • Physical changes related to pregnancy
    • Acute joint infection or injury

Chiropractic Care to Relieve Hip and Leg Pain

Many of the causes of SI pain can be eased through all-natural means such as chiropractic care. Our chiropractor, Dr. Sharratt, will perform a number of tests and evaluations to pinpoint the underlying cause of your condition. X-Rays may be necessary to pinpoint the problem and rule out more serious factors. This gives us the ability to administer the right mix of treatments for your specific needs. Chiropractic adjustments to the sacrum, pelvis and lower back can help stabilize a problematic SI joint while also balancing your weigh distribution. The effectiveness of these treatments may be enhanced by our other therapeutic services, including physical therapy, massage, nutritional support, and other non-invasive techniques.
